What is the difference between laminate and vinyl flooring?
Both laminate and vinyl flooring are man-made products, available in a variety of colors and styles. Vinyl is constructed from different layers of PVC with a printed PVC film layer and a protective top wear layer. Laminate is comprised of resin impregnated paper backing, high-density fiberboard core, a photographic paper film and protective wear layer on top.
At the bottom of this post you can find examples of Luxury vinyl Flooring, just to help provide a visual. There are many different styles and looks, and they even make marble and stone Luxury Vinyl options now!
The big difference between the two is that:
Laminate = Water-RESISTANT
Luxury Vinyl = Water-PROOF (some cheap vinyl options may be water resistant, be sure to consult with us prior to purchasing any materials for projects that we will be doing for you!)
We always recommend Luxury Vinyl when deciding between the two, because it stands up the best to liquids and general wear and tear over the years! Laminate is a good option for areas that will not be exposed to any liquids, when working with a tight budget!
